After the veil was taken off the seven-seater 2015 Everest on November 13th, Ford Asia Pacific decided to offer us a glimpse of the 2015 Ford Ranger. As we expected, it’s just a facelift of the T6-gen Ranger.
In production since 2011, the mid-size pickup truck was due a mid-cycle facelift. After way too many camouflaged pre-production mules spotted by our carparazzi, the cat was finally let out of the bag.
Even though the interior isn’t featured in the teaser video below, our spy photographers caught it on film back in July. What the video does show us is how the 2015 Ford Everest got a bed and a rhinoplasty.
While the headlights are shared between the two models, the 2015 Ford Ranger features a differently-styled front grille. Embellished with chrome, the coolest aspect of the trapezoidal grille is represented by three horizontal bars, with the middle one appearing as it’s floating.
The bumper and fog lights also differ from the new Everest’s, but the bonnet design remains unchanged
Other shared aesthetic elements are the gills on the sides, running boards, door handles and chrome side mirrors. It’s still a mystery what happened at the rear, but the flared wheel arches don’t look half bad.
Considering the 2015 Ford Everest and 2015 Ford Ranger are platform brothers, it’s easy to guess what the powertrain options list holds in store for you. Four-wheel drive prowess, a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic, as well as a choice of three engines. Nothing sophisticated, only utilitarian goodness.
These are a 2.0 EcoBoost gasoline-fed mill, a 2.2-liter Duratorq TDCi and a more potent 3.2-liter turbo diesel. However, this being a workhorse, we expect Ford to drop the 2-liter EcoBoost turbo petrol from that list and offer only the torquier and more economical turbo diesels.
