2015 Hyundai Veloster Turbo Unveiled with 204 HP and 7-Speed DCT

Hyundai has just taken the wraps off a mid-life facelift for the Veloster Turbo, one of the most controversial designs for a coupe ever made.

Cosmetic changes are limited, but there are loads of things to talk about under the bonnet. A 1.6-liter GDI turbo engine continues to be offered, pumping 204 hp. Like the i30 Turbo, a new 7-speed Double-Clutch Transmission or DCT is available. It can automatically shift gears, has a sport mode and a manual mode where you decide the cog-changing timing paddles behind the steering wheel.

The manual doesn't appear to have been killed off, but it's available exclusively with a model called Turbo DSPEC. Re-tuned brakes and suspenion complete the dynamic package.

On the style front, the Veloster Turbo receives new twin-color sports seats with side bolsters. All the designs feature black with accents in either light brown, blue or gray.

Lastly, the 2015 Veloster Turbo features a Beats sounds system integrated together with a an engine sound equalizer which allows you to choose from one of the six available engine sounds. How Clio RS like!

Non-turbo Veloster gets 6-speed DCT

Changes are even more limited for the regular Veloster, which keeps its old 1.6-liter GDI engine. They've added things like ventilated seats, a sunroof, parking sensors and cornering lights. But it looks almost the same.

The output of the 1.6 remains the same at 140 horsepower. But the Korean official website says it will be available with a 6-speed DCT, which has never been discussed before.

Pricing will depend on the market, but we thought it will be interesting to look at what the 7-speed DCT has added. The base Veloster Turbo with a manual starts at 21,900,000 Korean won ($20,281, while the auto brings Blue Link 2.0 infotainment for a grand total of 23,700,000 won ($21,952). That means when the new Veloster Turbo brings its DSG copy to America, we can expect a bump of roughly $1,600 to $1,700.
