Introduced for the first time at the Paris Motor Show 2010, the ix20 from Hyundai is bound to get a facelift this year, to keep up with the rest of the line-up. Not too long ago the i30 and i40 models were also revised so it was only natural that the small MPV would also get some attention.
Our latest batch of spyshots coming in from Sweden shows us a sneak peek inside, at the seats and door panels to be more precise. Unfortunately, the dash was completely covered so not much can be said about the direction in which this car is heading.
However, we can expect a design closer in styling to the one of its bigger brothers. Since this is a facelift, the changes will be rather small but they could make a difference in keeping up the pace with the current market for such cars. Also, the materials could use an improvement even though this is not a car aiming at the premium market.
On the outside, the headlights and taillights will most likely get more attention than not. If the ix35 is any inspiration then we should see a rather interesting approach. Look at the Kia Venga for a hint at how this car would turn out as they’re basically sisters. A new hexagonal grille also seems to peer from under the sheets so more than just new headlamps could be in the works.
As far as the engine updates go, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what Hyundai will do for the ix20. The new 1.4-liter 4-cylinder ‘Kappa’ engine could be a fresh addition while the existing 1.4- and 1.6-liter diesels could get a slight bump in power and efficiency.
Overall, the new package could also include new technology onboard along with a revised suspension, better soundproofing and improvements in small key areas that could make this a more competitive mini MPV.
