2015 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Preview Is Giving Us Goosebumps

The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy is undoubtedly the sickest, craziest, most thrilling and the most dangerous road race in the motorcycling world. With the bikes ridden at MotoGP speeds on everyday countryside roads, inches from stone walls and hedges, performing high-speed jumps and often flying above the asphalt dozens of feet, racing around the Snaefell Mountain is definitely not a stunt for everybody.

The 2015 IOM TT organizers have already prepared a neat preview short movie starring several of the TT stars, such as Guy Martin, Bruce Anstey, Michael Dunlop and the Mountain King himself, John “Mr. Pint” McGuinness. These folks have been living on the edge for so many years, and endurance motorcycle racing is their job, but still, when having to speak about the Mountain, their words fall short.

It’s enough to watch some of the 2014 Isle of Man TT videos and sort through our coverage to understand the degree of “insanity“ needed to race around the Isle of Man, as well as the guts these guys have when blasting at 200 mph (320 km/h) on the Manx roads. If anything, if you’re a motorcycle enthusiast, the Isle of Man TT is one of the destinations you just HAVE to reach at least once in a lifetime.

2014 winner Michael Dunlop apparently no longer on BMW machinery

The 2014 TT star is Michael Dunlop, nephew to the legendary Joey Dunlop and brother to William, who is also a racer. Michael even won the Senior TT race this year, a feat which was usually reserved to the older riders, and especially to the Morecambe Missile. McGuinness has however triumphed in the TT Zero with Team Mugen and their electric racing machine.

Prior to the TT, Michael Dunlop had no contract with Honda, his usual team, and even thought to stay aside. However, he managed to ink a deal with BMW Motorrad and it turned out that the move was a huge success. He rode his S1000RR to winning the Joey Dunlop Trophy in 2014, the award which goes to the rider with most victories.

Michael is rumored to put an end to his contract with BMW, with Honda most likely having given a second though to the terms of his contract. BMW is instead having Guy Martin at the helm in 2015, offering him a good chance to finally get on the first step of the TT podium. William Dunlop will be his team mate.

Mountain Course racing action is scheduled June 6-12, 2015 and as usual, we’ll be covering the event, so stay tuned.
