From 1999 to 2008, Jaguar Cars was owned by the Ford Motor Company. The most honorable efforts of the Blue Oval for Jaguar was the now defunct second generation XK and the lovely XF, which replaced the awful-looking S-Type sedan back in 2007.
After India-based Tata Motors got its hands on the British marque, the company gradually swapped Ford-developed mechanicals for new components. As a brief reminder, the XF is underpinned by the an enhanced Ford DEW98 platform, which came out in 1999 with the way too retro Jaguar S-Type.
Nowadays Jaguar cut ties with the unproductive Ford era, which also gave us a rebodied Mondeo marketed as the X-Type. Starting with the all-new XE’s iQ[Al] platform and Ingenium turbocharged engine family, Tata-owned Jaguar is trying to wash away the shame of its 9-year relationship with the Ford Motor Co.
Based on spy photos snapped by our carparazzi, it seems like the 2015 Jaguar XF will boast with XE looks and an elongated iQ[Al] aluminum platform. If our two cents were on the table, we would bet that the turbocharged petrol and diesel 2-liter Ingenium four-cylinder engine family will be adopted as well.
Apart from the revamped grille and square-ish rear fascia, sources also hinted there’s a BMW M5-rivaling supercharged V8 Jaguar XF SVR in the pipeline, expected to pack roughly 600 horsepower.
