Most people who've only owned larger cars have misgivings about trading down to a supermini. But B-segment motors have been getting bigger and better every year to the point where most are about 4 meters in length, the same as a Golf 3, and can be used on just about any occasion.
Mazda's brand new 2 hatchback is arguably one of the best, coming with cool features borrowed from the bigger 3 hatch and efficient new engines. The all-new 2 is also one of the biggest models in the segment, thanks to a proprietary platform and a stretched out wheelbase.

It would make for a wonderful supermini estate, one which we can show you today, thanks to the work of Theophilus Chin. The graphics manipulator took photos of the Mazda2 sedan that's going to be revealed at Thailand International Motor Expo at the end of the month and added a tailgate. The result is a somewhat awkward but affective car for carrying things.

Should they make one? Yes. Will they make one? No, because there's no Mazda3 compact wagon either.

Such a model might be quite popular in Europe, adding sales without costing too much to develop. Unfortunately, Mazda makes the 2 at the Hofu plant in Japan, Rayong in Thailand and soon Mexico, which means an all-European model is not feasible.

Even though they are relatively unknown, supermini estates are popular with European family car buyers. SEAT's Ibiza ST is among the oldest on the market and it was joined in 2013 by the Renault Clio Estate and a couple of weeks ago by the Skoda Fabia Combi.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
