After seven years of continuous production and hundreds of thousands of units moved around the world, the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class (X204) will soon be phased out in the detriment of the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class (X205). Our spy photographers caught one such machine in the flesh in Deutschland.
Previous spy shots and spy videos depict GLC-Class Mercs with less disguised front and rear fascias, but this is the first time the carparazzi managed to spot the soon-to-debut compact luxury crossover SUV’s doors camouflage-free. Regarding when the GLK’s successor will make its long-awaited world debut, look forward to an official unveiling this coming June.
At first glance, it’s easy to see that the GLC-Class is similar to the outgoing C-Class (W205) length-wise and wheelbase-wise. To be utterly frank, the cabin design of the GLC is 95 percent borrowed from the compact executive sedan, so go figure what’s hiding under that way more curvaceous (and totally not Gelandewagen-like) bodywork.
In addition to the aforementioned, it’s likely that the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class to spawn a plug-in hybrid variant based on the underpinnings of the C 300 BlueTEC Hybrid. Therefore, expect the eco-friendly GLC 300 BlueTEC Hybrid to get a 2,143 cc turbo diesel engine with 150 kW, teamed with a 20 kW electric motor, with both sending the ICE and all-electric ponies only to the rear wheels.

In terms of powertrain options, the GLC-Class will carry over pretty much every C-Class (W205) mill and transmission option sans the C 180 BlueTEC variant and its puny 1.6-liter four-banger motor.
Rear-wheel drive and 4Matic, six-speed stick shift or 7G-Tronic Plus automatic, the all-new Merc will boast with them all in a spectrum that’ll start with the GLC 200 BlueTEC (RWD, manual) and top with the GLC 450 AMG and Mercedes-AMG GLC 63, 4-liter biturbo V8 powerhouse and everything. In addition to the aforementioned, it’s likely that the 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class to spawn a plug-in hybrid variant based on the underpinnings of the C 300 BlueTEC Hybrid.
