Even though India hasn't become the booming car market everyone thought it would be, foreign car brands have not yet given up on the billion people there who might be potential customers in the near future. Mercedes today launched the all-new 2015 C-Class in India with prices starting at 40.90 lakh, equivalent to €53,000 or $66,000.
Codenamed W205, the new C-Class sedan is part of a new age of Mercedes cars, built using advanced fabrication techniques and lighter materials. It should do well, though only one version is available at the moment. This is the C200 petrol-powered car, equipped with a 2-liter turbo that sends 184 HP to the rear wheels via a standard 7-speed. Production is done locally using Knocked Down Kits and there are plans to introduce a diesel version as early as next year. This is likely to be the 220 BlueTEC with 170 HP and 400 Nm of torque.

The current model on sale also boasts 300 Nm of torque, will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 235 km/h. According to the local fuel consumption rating system, it will achieve 14.75 kilometers per liter (6.9 l/100km), a notable improvement over the old C-Class, which got 11.74 km/l (8.5 l/100km). This is partly due to the lightness of the chassis and also to the introduction of an ECO start/stop system.

The design of the new C-Class is quite something, a clear departure from the last generation. It plays with subtle lines and draws all the attention to the front end. This features a grille inspired by the new S-Class sedan and dual-lamp LED headlights.

Inside, the design is simple and elegant. The center console cascades from the infotainment screen which now sits on top of the dash like a tablet, to the sexy brushed aluminum controller. Comfort features include -zone climate control, LED ambient lighting, panoramic sun-roof and 13-speaker music system from Burmester.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
