2015 Skoda Fabia 1.2 TSI Acceleration Test: Reaches 180 KM/H

Since the model has just made its official debut at the Paris Motor Show, not a lot of people have had the chance to sample the all-new Skoda Fabia in person. This supermini has a boxy shape and has been designed to be practical, not sporty, but the new engines it has inherited from Volkswagen Group and the fact that a considerable chunk of weight has been cut from the platform means the Skoda model is nippier than ever.

Czech publication Autoforum has been privileged enough to receive a freshly assembled Fabia III with a 1.2 TSI engine to test drive, way ahead of other publications. Besides writing a full test report, they also shot this acceleration video and some driving footage on a twisty piece of road.

The highlight of the clip is the fact that this 1.2L-powered supermini can reach a respectable top speed of 180 km/h (112mph). However, this isn't the actual speed, just the one indicated by the speedometer. A V-box installed on the car indicated the speed was actually 175 km/h (109mph).

The new Fabia is actually available with two versions of the 1.2-liter engine. The base one is fitted with a 5-speed gearbox and gets 90 PS, while the top-spec versions boast 110 PS, delivered though either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG.

The car in this video is the 90 PS version, which official numbers claim will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 10.9 seconds and boasts a top speed of 182 km/h (113 mph). The model weighs from 1,109 kilograms (2445 lbs), has a 330-liter trunk and claims a combined fuel consumption figure of 4.7 liters per 100 kilometers (60 mpg UK), equivalent to 107 g/km of CO2.

It might also be worth a quick note that even in the most spartan trim level, the a Fabia 1.2 TSI costs €13,740 in Germany (including 19% VAT). Those are launch prices for you!
