After making its official debut at the Paris Motor Show, the all-new Skoda Fabia is ready to hit the European market. This third-generation supermini shows visible improvements over its predecessor and, we think, more clever stowage solutions than any other car in the segment. However, only time will tell if that's enough to compete on the same level as the Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo and Peugeot 208.
We have two very important stories to share with you about the Fabia supermini hatchback: pricing and visual information. Together, they paint an almost complete picture of Skoda's most important launch of the year.

Among the 17 “Simply Clever” features that Skoda has installed, the Fabia comes with an ice scraper in the fuel filler flap, a simple phone cradle located in the cup holder at the front and rubbish bins located in the door.

The photos

A full gallery of images detailing both the interior and exterior of the Fabia III has been released. Even with a sexy shade of metallic blue, a panoramic roof and 17-inch wheels, the new car is not as beautiful as a Peugeot 208 or Ford Fiesta.

But if we compare it to the Mk2 model, it's a huge improvement. The body is wider and features muscular shoulders inspired by Skoda's rally cars. The emphasis is placed on maximizing visibility, so the A- and C-pillars are straight and as narrow as possible.

As for the interior, it's a melange of Volkswagen Polo facelift parts with slight cosmetic touches. Is that a bad thing? No, and Skoda's boot is larger than anything else in this class, at 330 liters.

The configurator

The new Skoda Fabia is about to be launched in the European market this coming November. Several configurators have been launched, but in the absence of one from the British market, we've decided to play with the German version.

There, prices start at €11,790. That gets you the base 1-liter engine and Active trim level, which includes 4 speakers, electrically adjustable mirrors, a vanity mirror, tire pressure monitor, daytime running lights and a set of 15-inch steel wheels.

If the basic 60 PS engine doesn't sound like a good idea, Skoda also offers a 1.2-liter turbo with 90 PS or a new 1.4-liter TDI on the base model, though the price increases to €13,740 or €15,940, respectively.

After realizing that, we started wondering what it would cost to get a really cool Fabia, like the one in the photos. Ask for a full-spec model with a 1.4 TDI and a DSG gearbox and the price rises to a frightening €20,520. Looks like the Fabia is no longer the cheaper alternative to a Volkswagen Polo.
