The Fabia has always been one of the many ugly ducklings of the Volkswagen family, but this third generation model is a peach, much wider than before and equipped with decent tech. Now there's an even more practical version, coming in the form of the third-generation Fabia Estate, known as the Combi in some European markets.
The Czech carmaker has officially announced today that production of this all-new model has commenced at their factory in Mlada Boleslav, in the Czech Republic. The market launch is scheduled to take place in January 2015, with deliveries of right-hand drive models scheduled slightly later, March. (pricing information here)
From the outside, the Fabia Combi is the same as the regular hatchback model. However, the stretched rear end means that the boot has become one of the biggest in the class at at 530 liters (1395 liters with the rear seat folded down).
The engines are the same as well, with the exception of the very basic 1-liter 60 hp unit, which doesn't have what it takes to move this estate with decent pace.
The engines available on the Fabia estate basically revolve around two familiar VW family engine names: 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TDI. If you'd like to know specific horsepower levels and dimensions, check out the Fabia Combi database.
Additionally, the Fabia Combi is 10 mm longer, 90 mm wider and 33 mm lower than the outgoing model. You can get the latest navigation systems from the Polo facelift and the MirrorLink connectivity feature. Even a panoramic moonroof like the one in the photo above can be yours. This Skoda is not just for the masses!
“The production launch of the new Skoda Fabia Estate is a key element of our comprehensive model campaign,” said Skoda Board Member for Production and Logistics, Michael Oeljeklaus. “As the best-selling vehicle in its segment, the Fabia Estate is a pillar of the Skoda growth strategy. With its outstanding features, it has everything to attract new consumer groups for both the model and the brand.”
