Not further than a few years ago, talking about a Porsche that could juggle with a 5.5s 0 to 62 mph sprint and an efficiency of 50 MPGe (3.1l/100 km) would’ve seemed like a story coming from another planet. Nonetheless, Zuffenhausen has serious petrol-electric plans, so the aforementioned tale is as true as it can be, belonging to the Panamera S E-Hybrid.
We sampled this green four-door Porsche in our review and now we’re here to give you a set of brief conclusions.

First of all, the S E-Hybrid is actually green. Acid Green to be more precise. The color is only spilled over a few exterior accents and over even fewer cabin details, but makes quite a difference.

The idea of a petrol-electric Panamera may be familiar to you, since the vehicle also offered such a model before the mid-cycle revamp. Nonetheless, while the Panamera S Hybrid featured a rather tiny 1.7 kWh battery pack and a 47 hp electric motor, the new one is a plug-in hybrid. This means that battery capacity jumps almost five times to 9.4 kWh, while the electric motor now delivers 95 hp. All in all, the pedal on right now controls 416 hp.

The downside here is that all the extra tech brings a 250 lbs (115 kg) weight disadvantage, making the S E-Hybrid over 660 lbs (300 kg) heavier than the entry-level model.

You can feel the extra mass and the fact that the hybrid can’t be gifted with goodies such as PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control) or PTV Plus (Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus) doesn’t help either.

Nonetheless, if you drive the S E-Hybrid up to 7 out of ten, you won’t feel any dynamic drawback.

What about the efficiency?

Like we said, you need 5.5 seconds to hit 62 mph, while the top speed sits at 168 mph (270 km/h). Just kidding, we’ll switch to the efficiency now. That advertised 50 MPGe (3.1l/100km) can be achieved, but only during the first hundred of km, when the battery is full.

Of course, a real-world figure is probably closer to 59 mpg (4l/100 km) and as for the overall efficiency throughout the drive, this sat at 30 mpg (7.8l/100 km). When it comes to the all-electric driving range, Porsche says the car can do between 11 and 22 miles (18 and 36 km). We managed to achieve the maximum value during our time spent with the car.

Interestingly enough, Porsche offers the hybrid propulsion as some sort of an option - to be more precise, the Panamera S E-Hybrid is only about $2,900 or EUR2,400 more expensive than a Panamera S.

We’ll talk about the exact price of the car and explain why this is a Porsche for the sapiosexual individual in our 2015 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid review.
