2015 Renault Captur Gets More Powerful 1.5 Diesel in UK to Compete with Juke

The Renault Captur is a small crossover with lots of cool design details. However, what it doesn't have enough of is power. That changes with the introduction of a punchier 1.5 dCi diesel that supposedly manages to return an amazing 76mpg on the combined cycle as well.
We're recently tested the Renault Captur with the XMOD package, a 90 horsepower 1.5-liter and EDC twin-clutch gearbox. However, Renault UK is launching a 110 hp model with 20 hp and 40 Nm over the dCi 90 unit. That makes the car noticeably faster, with 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprints taking only 11 seconds compared to 13.1s.

Thanks to stop-start tech, it's still quite efficient and puts out only 98 grams per kilometer if you use the Eco model. The pricing is going to be the biggest issue with this new Captur model, as it starts at £17,695 for the Dynamic trim level. The Nissan Juke, which is about the same size, can be ordered with the same dCi 110 engine from only £15,520.

However, the Captur is more spacious and better equipped. Dynamique versions of car come as standard with the MediaNav system including a seven-inch touchscreen, satellite navigation and multimedia connectivity, 17-inch silver alloys and automatic climate control. Dynamique S adds rear parking sensors, 17-inch two-tone alloys and electrically-operated, folding and heated mirrors for £19,195. There is also a Signature model you can have for £20,795, but we honestly don't know who would pay that much for a Renault and ignore something like the Ford Focus or VW Golf.

So, having tested the Captur crossover, would we recommend the 110 hp diesel? Not really, because it's not designed to be a fast car in the first place and the 90 hp diesel is good enough. You also can't have the automatic transmission with the higher output version and something like a Golf March will keep its value for longer.
