One of the biggest debuts of 2014 was the all-new Passat, the B8 which is based off the MQB platform. It's won every comparison test with class rivals and we predict it may even take a chunk out of the BMW 3 Series market. And just like the Bimmer, people like to have it tuned. Cue the Bavarian music as we introduce the ABT tuning project for the 2.0-liter TDI twin-turbo engine!
ABT are the biggest customizers of Volkswagen Group cars in the world. But even they needed a little time to figure out how to boost this mighty new engine, currently the most powerful of its kind in the world. In stock form, the diesel-burner from Wolfsburg makes 240 PS and 500 Nm, being capable of 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in about 6 seconds. ABT took that, played with the exhaust and engine mapping to get 280 PS.

Now, the tuned Passat is supposed to be a Geneva Motor Show debut, so it also has to look the part. To this end, the package from Bavaria includes everything you could possible want to customize the car. This includes a front lip spoiler, revised side skirts and a spoiler. You can also order new springs and some interior features to be changed, while the special turbine-shaped wheels are available in sizes up to 21 inches.

ABT has also created a new grille for the Passat, which we think is vest avoided because it doesn't match the classy LED headlights. Our favorite part is the quad exhaust system, which looks like it's been modeled on the one from the Golf R. Seeing a stock B8 Passat in Person, you certainly get the feeling that the exhaust is the weakest point of its design.

Editor's note: That moment when you take a €50,000 Passat and make it even more expensive...

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
