If you've got your heart set on a shiny new Mazda CX-5 for next year, you're going to need to save at least $21,795. Plus taxes. Mazda North American Operations has released the pricing and trim level details for the mid-2016 model year.
All CX-5s equipped with the SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic transmission now get a backup camera as standard. The CX-5 Touring trim level comes standard with navigation and heated front seats while the CX-5 Grand Touring gains navigation as standard.
Mazda aims to reduce complexity in CX-5's trim level structure. Previously, CX-5's backup camera was part of the Rear View Camera Package on the CX-5 Sport trim level. Navigation was available in the CX-5 Touring and Grand Touring Technology Packages.
The entry-level Sport model comes standard with an SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter engine that puts out 155 hp, just like the 2016 model. It's paired with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive and it's the only CX-5 available with a manual transmission. Those wanting a CX-5 Sport with the six-speed automatic transmission will also get a more powerful SKYACTIV-G 2.5 engine, the MAZDA CONNECT infotainment system with a seven-inch color monitor and Commander control knob. All for $23,595 plus taxes.
CX-5 Touring and Grand Touring models also have the SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic transmission and come with a 184 hp, 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G engine. The Touring starts at $25,215 and the Grand Touring at $28,570 plus taxes.
All trim levels come standard with front-wheel drive. The available predictive i-ACTIV all-wheel drive uses 27 sensors to read outside weather and temperature conditions up to 200 times per second to adjust how torque is distributed. The most affordable AWD CX-5 comes in Sport trim and is priced at $24,895 plus taxes.
The compact crossover / SUV segment is the largest in the US market and still going strong. It grew by 13% in Q1-Q3 2015 compared to the same period last year, making it the second-fastest-growing non-premium SUV segment. Mazda North American Operations has sold 82,013 CX-5 crossovers in Q1-Q3 2015, up 5%, but the model came in a lowly 11th in sales ranking. The Honda CR-V is the segment leader.
