The mid-size executive and luxury car segment is as packed as ever, but if the German norm doesn’t float your boat, there’s a US-made alternative available. For the 2016 model year, the Cadillac CTS sedan is notably more versatile and better equipped than ever.
2016 Cadillac CTS updates are plentiful, so let’s start with the basics. In terms of exterior colors, Majestic Plum Metallic, Opulent Blue Metallic and the Black Diamond Tricoat are no longer featured. Caddy choose to replace the hues with Moonstone Metallic, Stellar Black Metallic and Cocoa Bronze Metallic.
Moving on to the changes operated inside the 2016 CTS, Light Platinum with Jet Black and full Jet Black color combinations now feature Sapele wood trim. In total, there are three interior color combos available: Jet Black, Twilight Blue with Jet Black accents and Light Cashmere with Medium Cashmere detailing.
Cadillac engineers updated the CUE infotainment system as well with redesigned interfaces, improved processing speed, Bluetooth media browsing and the deletion of the SD card slot. Rear Vision Camera and a remote locking fuel filler cap now come as standard across the entire 2016MY Cadillac CTS sedan range.
Now for the oily bits. The 3.6-liter LGX V6 of the 2016 Cadillac CT6 (and 2016 Chevrolet Camaro) replaces the GM High Feature 3.6-liter LFX V6 engine. The 6-speed automatic, 3.45 rear axle are gone as well. In their place, we’re given a Hydra-Matic 8L45 8-speed transmission (just like on the CT6) and 2.85 rear axle. The LGX comes as standard with start/stop, Active Fuel Management, and an external engine oil cooler.
In the case of the turbocharged 2.0-liter LTG four-pot, added standard features include an 8-speed auto and 2.85 rear axle. Lastly, the 17-inch 10-spoke ultra-bright machined finish wheels and 18-inch 7-spoke polished aluminum wheels were deleted in favor of 10-spoke designs that measure 17/18 by 8.5 inches.
