The 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is by no means underpowered. But you know how the petrolhead world rolls these days - too much is never enough, apparently. That's why John Hennessey and his tuning outfit decided to give the uber sedan some visual upgrades and 1,000 HP. Mean, isn't it?
We're much obliged to repeat that figure to you - one thousand horsepower. In standard form, the CTS-V redefines the notion of what makes a high-performance sedan, but this is ridiculous! Hennessey Performance took the most powerful model in Cadillac's 112-year history, then gave it a mountain of get-up-and-go, just to be sure.
To be sure of what? To be sure that the driver feels like he's king of the road. Known as the HPE1000 Upgrade, the tuning package starts with a 2.9-liter supercharger. Mechanical enhancements also include forged pistons and steel rods, a custom camshaft, ported cylinder heads, upgraded injectors and fuel system, as well as a high-flow intercooler and a bigger heat exchanger.
Long-tube stainless steel headers are on the menu as well, making sure that this LT4 small-block V8-powered beast exhales as well as it inhales. Stainless steel mid-pipes, high-flow catalytic converters, high-performance fluids, and an ECU recalibration round off the upgrades list nicely. Anything else?
The exterior makeover starts with black-painted grilles and a carbon fiber boot lid spoiler. However, the massive flared wheel arches are the biggest visual treat Hennessey has to offer for the Cadillac CTS-V. H10 Monoblock wheels are optional extras, yet we wouldn't change the standard 19-inch aluminum wheels for Hennessey's set of rolling bling. Once you step inside, you'll be surprised to find only two significant modifications: a serial-numbered dashboard plaque and Hennessey-branded premium floor mats.
As it's the case with any other 1,000 horsepower upgrade from Hennessey Performance, the Cadillac CTS-V HPE1000 comes with a 1-year/12,000-mile warranty. It may not compete with the automaker's 4-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, but then again, GM doesn't offer 1,000 HP as standard.
