The eight-generation Chevrolet Malibu is still young by modern vehicle lifecycle standards but the golden bowtie manufacturer plans to replace it for the 2016 model year with an all-new generation. And good golly, here is the first teaser picture of the next-gen!
Before going any further, we must highlight the most important aspect of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu - the E2XX platform. To be adopted by the 2016 Opel Insignia and 2017 Buick Regal as well, the still mysterious E2XX was developed to replace the old as socks Epsilon 2 and Lambda vehicle architectures.
According to more or less official reports, we can expect “world-class driving dynamics.” So what can we look forward to in terms of styling? Thanks to four inches of extra wheelbase over the 2015 model year, the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu appears to be better sculpted when looked at from the side. You could almost say that the sloping roofline has some Audi A7 cues in it.
The sleek HID headlights haven’t got that much wow factor infused in them, but the reverse L-shaped LED daytime running lights and what appears to be LED tail lamps make up for it. Weighing approximately 300 pounds (136 kilograms) less than the current Malibu, the 2016MY will make use of high-strength steel, a structural solution that also ups the rigidity of the chassis.
One more mention: if GM will unveil the 2016 Cadillac CT6 and 2016 Chevrolet Malibu (on sale later in 2015) at NY, then we’ll have to wait a little bit more for the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro to make its world debut.
