After a new batch of spy photos and an little pixel work with the official teasers for the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, the automaker announces that 70 percent of components are “unique to the Gen 6 Camaro.” Not bad!
We’re told that only two parts carry over from the 2015 model year, fifth-gen Camaro: “the bowtie emblem on the taillamp panel and the SS badge.” I don’t get it how these two amount to 30 percent carry-over components, but nevermind.
See that tubular tri-Y-style exhaust manifold up there? It’s been confirmed that it’ll make a great team with the 6.2-liter LT1 Small-Block V8 that replaces the fifth generation’s 6.2-liter LS3 V8.
Compared to the 460 HP mill you get on the C7 Corvette, Chevy informs that “20 percent of the 6.2L LT1 V8 engine has been tailored to fit the Camaro’s packaging.” We hope that this choice of words doesn’t translate to “it’ll have less HP than the C7 Corvette Z51.”
As for the second photo in the gallery below, that is a part of the Cadillac ATS-derived GM Alpha platform.
“Alpha provided a strong foundation, but more than 70 percent of the components are unique to the Gen 6 Camaro, including exterior and interior dimensions, an all-new interior, front and rear suspension, and powertrain components,” said Mark Reuss, GM executive vice president of Global Product Development.
