2016 Chevrolet Camaro Acceleration Sound is Pure LT1 V8 Muscle

After FoMoCo and Chrysler renewed their line of all-American ponies with the 2015 Mustang and 2015 Challenger, time has come for GM to up the ante with the sixth-gen Camaro. In this regard, we’ve been teased with the 6.2-liter LT1 V8’s sound at full throttle. Yummy!

See that 27-second YouTube video below? You can also download the small-block vee-eight’s thunderous hoo-ha as a ringtone for your iOS, Android or Windows-powered smartphone if you visit chevrolet.com/2016-camaro. From a subjective point of view, my hearing is better entertained by the sixth-gen Camaro’s bellow than those of the Coyote-engined Mustang or the 392 HEMI-propelled Challenger.

Based on our collective talent at identifying a motor by the induction and exhaust noises, the extroverted and meaty tone of the eight-cylinder engine resembles that of the C7 Corvette we’ve tested in Z51 Performance Package format. So yes, the rumors were true - the LS3 V8 is a thing of the past now.

Starting with quite a ruckus at idle, the adjacent sound clip showcases a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS blasting its way from a wheelspin-laden first to fourth gear. By the sound of the upshifts, we’re dealing with a stick shift, most probably the C7 Corvette’s Tremec TR-6070 7-speed manual. Now try to imagine how fast the SS iteration of the new pony will be able to accelerate with the optional Hydra-Matic 8L90 8-speed auto...

You may remember that our insider suggested that the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will debut two months from now on, probably at the Indy 500. Our source hasn’t been too far off considering that the golden bowtie promised us with a May 16th unveiling event in Detroit. By the way, the 2016 Camaro microsite indicates that “every piece of #CamaroSix will be refined in the name of performance.” Heck, are you excited or what?
