Every now and again, automotive renderings have a whiff of fantasy to them, which kind of spoils a gearhead's hopes and dreams of how a pre-production car will look in production-ready clothes.
However, these 2016 Chevy Camaro renderings were made based on the proportions and lines of the test mules recently spied on the Nurburgring and we have a sneaking suspicion that the finished product will look very close to what you can see in the gallery below.
A lot rides on the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro's shoulders. It's General Motors' longest-living pony car nameplate and it carries a 47-year-old history with it. For the all-new 2016 model year, Chevrolet will yet again grind, file and smooth the styling of the Camaro and we're happy to announce it will look bonkers.
Compared to the 2010 – 2015 model year fifth-gen Chevrolet Camaro, the General Motors design team has really struggled to breathe new life into the all-new pony, whereas the outgoing generation is a tad too big in proportions and not as enticing to the eye as the Mustang or Challenger.
To sum up the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro's looks, expect a toned down Bumblebee from Transformers 4: Age of Extinction, minus the futuristic transforming robot. But the most important new or improved bits and bobs can be found underneath.
That vented hood hides the same ol' V6 and V8 powerplants you can also find on the current generation, albeit with a little bit more grunt and efficiency to them, but voices in the industry also hint at another mill. This is a pumped up version of the 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder one might find on the ATS.
Speaking of the ATS, the new Camaro will ride on a reworked GM Alpha platform, which translates to a five-link independent rear, MacPherson struts at the front, a lot of aluminum and many more goodies.
