With General Motors packing the C7 Corvette’s LT1 into the 2016 Camaro, certain aftermarket developers wouldn’t wait more than a day before tapping into the engine’s tuning potential. We mean that in a literal sense, with a modded sixth-gen Camaro SS having already managed to pull a 10.6s quarter mile pass.
With the car having been delivered earlier this week, the engine compartment received an early visit from Santa. To be more precise, the 6.2-liter V8 was gifted with a 150 shot of nitrous.
The factory wheels were swapped with rollers coming from Weld Racing, which were obviously wrapped in drag radial rubber.
While a stock 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS in 8-speed auto trim will complete the 1,320-foot task in the low 12-second range, the example in question managed to go as low as 11.77s using just the tire-wheel combination mentioned above.
Once that run was complete, the nitrous came into play, with the muscle car pulling the 10.6s run mentioned above at 128.81 mph (that’s 207 km/h for drag racing aficionados across the pond). For the record (no pun intended), this makes the Camaro almost as fast as a 2015 Corvette Z06 on drag radials.
The feat took place at the Tulsa Raceway Park in Oklahoma, with a footage of the run being in the pipeline.
With the Camaro only having 200 miles (320 km) on its odometer, the people running it are hoping it will go even faster once the admittedly unholy break-in procedure takes place.
While many might wonder why people are so impatient to get their Camaro SS rides on the prepped surface, one explanation could be that these owners want to put that 40 grand sticker price to good use.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again - working on the 2016 Camaro SS seems to be the trend of the season. And yes, things are moving faster than in the case of the S550 Mustang.
