Two very interesting photos showed up on Vav.kr. Nope, that’s not a Hyundai. Check out the dual-port grille complemented by a duo of extremely familiar headlights. Looking like an Opel Karl / Vauxhall Viva spin-off with more fugly added to the mix, what we have here is, in fact, the 2016 Chevrolet Spark.
It’s hard to say that the outgoing model is pretty, but the soon-to-be-unveiled fourth generation Spark won’t win beauty contests. It is a mess both from up front and from the sides. Just look at the headlights. Yep, they appear to be inspired by the old Hyundai i20 facelift from 2012, which isn’t a good-looking car.
Furthermore, the side profile view shows obvious Opel Karl cues here and there, which leads us to be believe that the 2016 Spark will share its underpinnings with the German model. Oh wait, the Karl isn’t German. It will be made in South Korea. If our intuition is correct, that’s the same country that’ll take care of 2016 Chevrolet Spark production duties. Even the current Spark is made at GM Korea’s Changwon facility.
With the two spy shots also snapped in South Korea, it’s obvious that the 2016 Chevrolet Spark will be built there. In terms of mills and powertrain options, don’t expect anything more than a FWD chassis a la the Opel Karl and three-cylinder powerplants. A 1-liter EcoTec with 75 horsepower will certainly be offered, while rumors indicate that the Adam Rocks’s 1.0 EcoTec with 115 HP will also be available for the 2016MY.

Nevertheless, look forward to a sub-1 ton city car offered with a five-speed manual as standard and a CVT as an optional extra.
