After way too many rumours from more or less official channels and endless spy photographs, the new Acura NSX / Honda NSX is going to be finally unveiled in just under a month. On January 12th, next year, the tech-savvy hybrid-electric sportscar will make its live debut at the 2015 North American Auto International Auto Show in Detroit.
autoevolution will be there to provide you with live photos, as well as further information on the 2016 Acura NSX, but even the Japanese carmaker couldn’t resist to tease us with it before the unveiling.
I know what you’re thinking now, but no - this isn’t a concept, but the production-ready all-new NSX, which will arrive in US showrooms later in 2015.
Honda’s posher division also told us that the next generation “NSX will deliver a 'new sports experience' true to its heritage and to the supercar concept that originally gave rise to the name NSX. The NSX will serve as the ultimate expression of Acura performance that is fueling a re-energized brand.”
You want specifications regarding the powertrain, isn’t that so?
Unfortunately, they’re still a mystery and Acura is keeping its lips shut right now. Nevertheless, we were told that its spectacular exterior design was penned at Acura's studio in Torrance, Califonia, and the NSX will be made at Honda’s Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio.
In addition to this, Ted Klaus, chief engineer and global project leader for the 2016 Acura NSX / 2015 Honda NSX, refers to his creation as a “human-centered supercar that responds to the will of the driver and that builds upon the NSX heritage.”
Whatever that actually means, “NSX heritage” makes me think almost automatically about that ballistic video of Ayrton Senna heel-and-toe-ing the bejesus out of a first-generation NSX on a circuit in Japan.
If our two cents count, do expect a powertrain comprised of a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, three electric motors (two at the front and one in the rear axle), north of 400 horsepower, an all-new seven-speed dual clutch auto transmission and Honda’s Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system.
Fingers crossed the Detroit show car isn’t going to burn to a crisp like that prototype did on the Ring.
