As it happens more and more often these days, one small official photo leak can throw off an entire pre-launch campaign, unless that particular leak isn’t a part of the campaign itself. Anyway, the big news is the all-new Audi R8 has been officially revealed prior to its 2015 Geneva Motor Show debut.
While waiting to make its official presence felt next week in Geneva, the 2016 Audi R8’ saw its details and photos assaulting the internet as Audi finally decided to reveal its new supercar.

We’re sure you’ll want to dive into technicalities first, so here’s the thing. The new R8 was trusted with an updated 5.2-liter FSI V10 engine - the only available choice during the launch - but Audi is offering two output options for the R8’s powerhouse.

Therefore, clients can either opt for the 540 HP and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque version, touted as the “soft” one, or may go slightly hardcore and choose the V10 Plus version. This second option comes with 610 HP and a maximum torque of 560 Nm (413 lb-ft).

Performance-wise, the 540 HP version can blast from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of 323 km/h (201 mph). The more generous V10 Plus variant is slightly faster, being able of going from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds and keeping up the pace to a max speed of 330 km/h (205 mph).

For a proper management of such hefty resources, Audi ditched the manual gearbox and is only offering the new R8 with a 7-speed S-Tronic transmission. There’s also a new permanent Quattro all-wheel drive system coming to the party, which according to Audi, was tuned to assign torque based on exterior driving conditions and can even scatter up to 100% of the available torque on a single axle if, at any point, things are starting to go sideways.

Praise the engine-transmission duo as much as you want, but the new R8 is also up to 50 kg lighter than the model it replaces. The V10 mid-engined supercar will have to thank the new Audi Space Frame chassis for that, mainly because it uses aluminum and CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastic/polymer).

In terms of design, Audi went full-German on the new R8 supercar and assigned it with a singleframe front grille flanked by standard LED headlights or optional laser lighting clusters with a maximum range of 600 metres. At the back, the R8 shows a flat configuration with a curvy, promient shoulder line and a retractable spoiler.

The cabin is dominated by new bucket seats, while the overall karma of the interior is drive-oriented. The icing on the cake is 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit but besides this sci-fi feature, clients can still choose a range of Nappa leather upholsteries and carbon fiber inserts.

We’ll keep you updated with fresh information as it becomes available. The 2016 Audi R8 will make its official debut in a few of days, during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The new R8 will hit the market in summer, with a starting price of €165,000 ($187,491) for the standard model and €187,400 ($212,934) for the R8 V10 Plus.
