New info is coming in from Munich these days, of course through unofficial channels. The latest is concerning the upcoming flagship, the G11/G12 7 Series and claims that it will get some new technology dubbed ‘automatic parking with remote control’.
Details are scarce at the moment but the naming should give us a clue as to what this new technology will be able to do. Remember Audi’s claims that they will create a car able to park itself without you in it?

Well, don’t expect your 7 Series to go around parking lots looking for a spot and parking itself with you not even watching, but the new tech might allow drivers to park their limousines using the key fob.

According to our reliable source, the new 7er will get a special key, similar to the one from the i8. That means you’ll be able to do all sorts of things with it, including parking your car.

How we see this technology working

In the future, parking lots are expected to grow ever more crowded. A common problem is that once you get inside a free space, you experience problems getting out of the car. With the new technology you’ll be able to stop next to a spot, exit the car and then press a button to allow your BMW to park itself, under your supervision. That will come in extremely handy.

And the technology exists today. Basically, we tested it in the new X5 a while back and we’re going to cover the subject more extensively in the future. The i3 has it too, the only difference being that you have to be in the car pressing a button for the car to park itself. Now, you’ll be able to do that from outside the car, using the remote.

Other new tech bits will also be included

Apart from this incredible bit, we also learned that the cars will also have selective headlight beams, active steering and better seats in the back that will offer similar possibilities as the front ones, including heating comfort and ambient air packages.

As we previously reported, the new iDrive system will feature touchscreens that will be present throughout the cabin capable of ‘talking’ to each other via ‘gesture control’ as BMW calls it. Last but not least, Wi Fi and wireless charging will also be included.
