2016 BMW M4 GTS Filmed Testing on the Nurburgring

BMW has been working on the M4 GTS for quite some time now, our exclusive post about the new model telling you all about it, before even the first spyshots came out. Today, we’re even showing you the car on video, doing its first laps around the Nurburgring.

And what better playground could BMW have chosen to put their latest creation at test? The Green Hell is the one facility used by every major manufacturer out there to put their cars to the test. And we do mean everyone, even American builders crossing the Atlantic to make sure their models are on par with the Europeans.

BMW M4 GTS? Sounds too good to be true

At first, we too though that a GTS version of the M4 sounds just too good to be true. The car aced all the tests journalists put it through during their reviews and we also sampled its greatness in the Austrian mountains.

The perfect power to weight ratio, the turbocharged 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine that has virtually no lag and the incredible suspension convinced us that the M spirit is back. What could BMW be doing creating a GTS version?

As it turns out, there’s still room for improvement in all of those categories. According to our insider, the GTS will be put into production with a couple of tweaks under the outermost sheet of metal.

New engine? What about the suspension?

No official word has come in just yet but we can make some educated guesses based on what we’ve seen on the E92 M3 GTS. That car had a bigger engine, more power, a roll-cage, less weight to carry around and an improved suspension.

The same should be applied to the M4 as well. To be turned into a complete track master, the car will most likely get an even harder suspension along with a stripped down interior. The weight savings shall then be accompanied by an uprated engine that could possibly be making closer to 450 HP and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft).

With such specs, it would be a worthy adversary for some entry-level Porsches and the AMG GT S model from Mercedes. We’ll still have to wait and see how this whole thing pans out but in the meantime we can hear it roar on the Nurburgring.
