Fresh on the tail of the latest spyshots with the upcoming 7-seat BMW X1 we uncovered its smaller brother, the one that will be unveiled this year. Fortunately for us, it was dark, cold and the camouflage helped us see how the LED fog lights will look like on the upcoming compact SUV.
It’s also pretty important to point out that the this is one of the production ready models that seems to be out testing the final details before the official unveiling.

The entire body of the car seems complete and, as some earlier spyshots showed us, it’s going to be well within the recent design style Bimmers have adopted. The headlights will be united with the kidney grilles and the taillights feature a nice design with curved lines, one that we have a hunch will be more and more visible on newer models.

Inside, we’re expecting a layout very similar to the one on the 2 Series Active Tourer which makes perfectly good sense since the two are sharing all their underpinnings including the UKL front-wheel drive platform.

And yes, the new X1 will be front-wheel drive and you should’ve known that unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last couple of months. There’s no need to despair however, as xDrive will be available and for the US customers it will be the only choice.

Other than that you should also know that with the new platform will come a new family of engines, the same used on the Mk3 MINI models, ranging from 1.5-liter 3-cylinder petrol and diesel mills to 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged alternatives. The most powerful model should have close to 240 HP. Oh, and there’s also going to be a plug-in hybrid alternative on the table if you’re looking for a more eco-friendly approach.
