In a recent release from the Blue Oval, the Detroit-based manufacturer promises that “seven new vehicles for Asia Pacific” are going to be unveiled at the Auto Shanghai 2015 show. Among these, the all-new Ford Taurus will also make an appearance on a pre-auto show event on April 18th.
As a brief reminder, the outgoing Ford Taurus represents the sixth-gen of the nameplate. In production since 2009, the full-size sedan is underpinned by the Ford D3 architecture, which is basically an evolution of Volvo’s P2 platform.
Offered in front and all-wheel drive guise, the 2015 Ford Taurus can be equipped with three engines: 2.0L EcoBoost, 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 and a 3.5L twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine.
Regarding the China-bound seventh-gen Ford Taurus, not much is known about it at the present moment.
The rumor mill is full of whispers and grapevine, but we should expect from the 2016 Taurus. A number of aluminum-intensive body panels and chassis bits and bobs are to be expected. Then there’s the platform, which has little chances of being the long-awaited D6 that is due in 2019.
As such, a widened and lengthened CD4 (CD4.3) is our best bet. Due to the Fusion / Mondeo-derived underpinnings, the all-new 2016 Ford Taurus should be available in front and all-wheel drive format.
Word on the street hints that the 2017 Lincoln Continental will replace the current MKS. If that happens, then the upcoming flagship sedan of the Lincoln marque will also be underpinned by the CD4.3 platform. But in this application, we expect an AWD layout coming as standard and a 3.0L twin-turbo EcoBoost V6.
