We don’t usually cover vans here on autoevolution, but the Ford Transit Custom is one of the best-selling workhorses out there. Our carparazzi managed to snap a few photos of the 2016 For Transit Custom facelift and changes aren’t numerous to be frank.
First presented by the Ford Motor Company in 2012 at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, UK, the mid-sized van sold by the bucket load. It’s not because the front-wheel drive chassis is on par with sports cars but because of the Transit Custom’s sheer versatility.
The Blue Oval’s light commercial vehicle can be had in three body styles (van, crew cab van, minibus) and is only sold with a 2.2-liter four-pot Duratorq TDCi turbo diesel in Europe. A six-speed manual transmission is the only cog swapper available for the mid-sized van.
Although unconfirmed at the present moment, we hear that the 2016 Ford Transit Custom facelift will employ the same oily bits as before with the same outputs as before (101 PS and 310 Nm; 125 PS and 350 Nm; 154 PS and 385 Nm). The only difference compared to the current TDCi will probably come in the guise of better fuel economy and EU6 emission standard compliance.
On the aesthetics front, our photographers caught the most camouflaged Transit van imaginable, but fret not. This prototype shows a sharper front fascia design that comprises of 2015 Ford Transit-inspired grille and air intakes. The headlights appear to be redesigned too, but it’s too hard to tell what happened there.
From the looks of it, the 2016 Ford Transit Custom prototype on hand appears to be a short wheelbase model (4.97 meters overall length) configured in the so-called Kombi layout. The Transit Custom Kombi can offer approximately 30 different seating arrangements.
On the inside, expect the 2016 facelift to borrow gadgets offered on the 2015 Focus.
