2016 Fiat Tipo Station Wagon Spied in Italy

Designed at the Centro Stile Fiat and assembled in Turkey by Tofas, the Fiat Tipo small family car is an interesting successor to the Bravo hatchback and the Linea sedan. An interesting buy for families that need a new car on a budget, that is. In long-roof form, the Fiat Tipo is also a fine short-haul workhorse.

Recently spied by our photographers in Italy, the Fiat Tipo Station Wagon is expected to be launched later this year. Until then, the five-door hatchback variant should make an appearance at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March. Boiled down to the core, the Fiat Tipo family has been developed to offer maximum everything for a price that undercuts the competition without making unreasonable compromises.

Priced at €14,500 (approx. $16,215) in Italy, the sedan comes as standard with goodies such as AUX and USB ports, Bluetooth, air conditioning, heated outside mirrors, Hill Holder, ESP, and tire pressure monitoring. That’s generous equipment for the most entry-level version of the Tipo sedan. The 520-liter (18.3 cuFT) cargo capacity is another selling point of this cheap and cheerful runabout.

Compared to the Volkswagen Golf hatchback’s boot, the Tipo swallows up much more of your belongings. Despite the camouflage and black cladding that mask the business end of the spied test mule, it’s obvious that the boot of the 2016 Fiat Tipo Station Wagon is as cavernous as an airport hangar. It remains to be seen, though, if this model will exceed 700 liters (24.7 cuFT) of storage capacity.

In disregard of its humble purpose in life, the 2016 Fiat Tipo Station Wagon doesn’t cut down on styling. Published by the peeps over at AutosSegredos, the photographs in the following gallery prove that cheap doesn’t necessarily mean ugly.

Just like the four-door sedan and the soon-to-be-launched five-door hatchback, the estate version of the Fiat Tipo will be offered with a choice of three transmissions (5- and 6-speed manual plus 6-speed automatic) and four engines (1.4-liter Fire, 1.6-liter E.torQ, 1.3-liter MultiJet II, and 1.6-liter MultiJet II).
