Did you think you've seen the last of the spindle grille? Not a chance. Toyota still thinks it's awesome and recently launched models like the RC F and NX suggest they are going to make it even bigger.
With the help of this oversized design element, Lexus has completely transformed its lineup to the point where it's almost unrecognizable. Old drivers have been replaced for young ones who like big wheels or air-ride suspension and motorsport activities have also been intensified.

However, this revolution would not be possible without the GS sedan, the first all-new model to sport the trademark grille back in 2012.

While the GS has aged gracefully, a mid-life update is being planned in order to compete with the ever aggressive onslaught of German sedans. That facelift will arrive within the year and is reportedly being developed as we speak in Japan.

Graphics designer Remcom Meulendijk from the Netherlands has tried to replicate this 2016 Lexus GS model. He upgraded the headlights to a tri-cluster LED unit and made the lower front bumper more aggressive. Meanwhile, the taillight graphics were redesigned and tinted as well.

Of course, Lexus buyers don't just get the GS for its looks. The car needs to be super-quiet and comfortable. The engine range will also see the first major downsizing. A GS 200t model is being planned and will be powered by the same new 2-liter turbo engine as the NX.

Featuring a combination of water-cooled cylinder head, integrated exhaust manifold and twin scroll turbo charger, the 2-liter turbo will be a lot more efficient than the current 2.5-liter V6. It will also deliver more punch, having been rated at 238 PS (175 kW) and maximum torque of 350 Nm. This places it in line with the Audi A6 2.0 TFSI, which delivers 252 PS. Still, there's no word on any diesel engines for the mid-sized Lexus sedan model, since hybrid tech remains their go-to setup.
