No week passes by without the carparazzi spotting the upcoming 2016 SLC (former SLK) roadster undergoing pre-production testing. Only this time, spy photographers came really close to the test mule.
Nobody likes to see a roadster being tested in the rain from a distance, so our photographers got closer on one occasion, but that wasn't enough. This time, they stepped into the lion's den and came inches close to the refreshed roadster.
Just as in the previous two sightings, the test prototype is still hiding its front and rear end - headlights and taillights included. But that's no biggie, because we already know designers did some refreshing work on those, so we pretty much have an idea of what to expect, since Mercedes-Benz wanted to bring the SLC in line with the rest of the range.
Yeah, this means the SLC will wear a retouched C-Class face, but since the new C-Class is capable of winning a beauty contest, we doubt anyone will complain about that. What might strike as a bit odd is the three-pointed-star company's decision to invigorate the current SLK. The roadster received beefier 4-cylinder engines and a 9-speed automatic gearbox to round off the package, and this should help sales until the revised version hits the market.
Looking at what the future holds for the SLC / former SLK, welcome to Obviousville, as Mercedes will pass on oily bits from the current SLK to the newly-baptized SLC. We'll keep you updated as more info emerges but as a sure shot, expect the SLC to bow during next year's Geneva Motor Show.
