OK, so we got a new Corolla, a revamped Camry, Tacoma (soon to be unveiled), some facelifted Prii, what’s next? A new Toyota Avalon flagship, of course, which just got unveiled at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show. It’s not a complete new model, but it comes with improvements that makes it somewhat more desirable.
And it all starts with the new front end. The outgoing model was looking pretty much like an angry toad, with those headlights sticking out like eyes and that gaping lower grille counting in for a mouth. The new face will remind you of an electric beard trimmer, but I’m sure that’s better than a frog.
This has been obtained by inverting the trapezoidal lower grille, fitting it with more horizontal shiny stripes, a chromed rim, two slim vents with daytime running lights instead of the foglight surroundings as well as redesigned headlight assembly optics, now coming with LED technology and a chromed strip at the top to complete the upper grille’s garnish.
Less is more
From here to the rear end you won’t see nothing new apart from a set of different rims, while at the back designers fit some minor modified stop lamps reunited by almost the same chromed element plus a new chrome strip on the lower bumper.
Stepping inside you’ll spot almost no differences, but if you squint really hard, you’ll see there is a new gray stitching to contrast the light grey interior finish. The XLE and XLE Plus will also get a 7-inch Entune Audio Plus infotainment, premium woodgrain dashboard trimmings as well as tire pressure monitoring. The HVAC display also looks a bit different.
The top-trim level Avalon Limited will boast with new 18-inch alloy Super Chrome wheels (17-inch on the hybrid model) and optionals like auto high beam, Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
Engine wise, everything remains the same with the previous model and as you expected, the pricing was not revealed yet. It should remain about the same, but do stick around for the exact numbers when they’ll get announced a bit later this year.
