2016 Toyota Land Cruiser Earns Eight-Speed Gearbox, New Look and Safety Pack

Only one day has passed since Toyota announced the refreshed Land Cruiser 200 for the Japanse market, and now it's time for US customers to know what will the 2016 Land Cruiser have in store for them. We'll take each aspect at a time, but we'll start with the addition of a new eight-speed automatic transmission bound to replace the six-speed one available up until this point. It also allows the driver to select manual control, but you'll also be interested to know the EPA ratings for the 2016 Land Cruiser: 13 mpg in the city, 18 mpg on the highway and 15 combined. The new gearbox will form a duo with the 381 horsepower 5.7-liter DOHC V8 engine fitted with Variable Valve Timing tech. Besides the high power output, the mill is also delivering 401 lb-ft (543 Nm) of torque at 3,600 rpm, with 90 percent of it being available as soon as the rpm needle hits the 2,200 mark. The Trailer Towing Pack is offered as standard equipment and allows the Land Cruiser to pull a trailer up to 8,500 pounds (3,855 kg). Moreover, Trailer Sway Control uses the Vehicle Stability Control to help counteract trailer sway, helping to make towing a more relaxed and safe chore. Inside and outside

On the outside, the Land Cruiser gains a new bumper, a refreshed grille, projector-beam LED low and high beam headlights plus cleaners and power bulges sculpted in the massive hood covering the engine compartment.
