Ford is getting ready to launch the 2017 GT, the third generation of its halo car, and the supposed first picture of the production version has popped up on the Internet.
The Blue Oval has recently announced that it will be using Gorilla Glass to make the upcoming GT's windshield and engine covers lighter, but a GT enthusiast forum unveiled a photo of what they claim to be the production version of the company’s new halo car. The guys at Ford GT Forum published the image attached to this story, of the third generation Ford GT, on their Facebook page.
Ford was expected to officially unveil the new GT sometime next year, but this leaked photo might make the Dearborn manufacturer change its mind and show some official pictures sooner.
We must note that the silver car in the image looks very much like the concept that Ford unveiled and paraded at several important auto shows in 2015. Unlike that car, the rear wing is different and mounted higher up, although it also looks retractable.
Furthermore, the side mirrors are larger, as expected on a production car, while the front fenders feature large orange markers. These are unique to United States domestic market cars, so this should be the production version of the next GT meant for the USA exclusively.
Looking closely at this car, we also notice a set of windshield wipers, something that we would not find on a concept car. The vehicle in question here seems to have been leaked by a participant at some sort of workshop who sneaked a camera phone into the event.
If we look in the background, you can observe several pieces of glass shaped like windshields, and one of them even has a Ford Oval on it. In line with the Ford logo, we see the word “Corning,” which probably refers to the company that makes Gorilla Glass.
