Back in January when Ford Performance unleashed its assault at Detroit, the world was overcome with Blue Oval high-octane information. In the midst of all that go-fast data flowing in, there were quite a few important questions that have yet to receive an answer.
One of these questions has to do with the 2017 Ford GT's connection to the road. Yes, as we noticed while taking photos of the car, it features pushrod suspension, but what about the wheels?
While the show floor-sharing Mustang GT350R rides on carbon fiber wheels, the GT concept curiously featured alloy wheels. Ford has yet to decide on whether the production supercar will switch to the track special Mustang's recipe or follow the concept's lead. Despite the prototype testing expected to debut this spring, we haven't seen any test vehicle yet, so the secret is more than well-kept.
While the Blue Oval makes up its mind on that, we've brought you a rendering that shows the new EcoBoost supercar riding on ADV.1 Wheels. This might be a digital creation, but the rims you see here are the aftermarket specialist's ADV05S units.
The "Manbronze" finish was selected in order to create a strong contrast with the Glossy Black finish of the rendered car.
Returning to the actual 2017 Ford GT, the presence of carbon wheels on the Mustang GT350R is just one of the clues pointing out towards a similar solution being employed on the supercar.
First of all, the company keep bragging about the GT having one of the best power-to-weight ratios in its class and with carbon wheels also reducing unsprung mass, it would all make sense.
Secondly, during the supercar's Euro debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Dave Pericak, Ford Performance Boss, hinted the GT will play in the same financial league with the Lamborghini Aventador, which means we should be prepared for a sticker price of around $400,000.
Sure, production vehicle carbon wheels used to be the kind of stuff you found on seven-figure Koenigseggs, but since the Mustang changed all that, there's hope of seeing them on the GT.
