2017 Ford GT Supercar Teased in Forza Motorsport 6 Trailer

Scratch the 2016 Shelby GT350R Mustang and its bone-shaking take on go-faster duties. Scratch the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor and its 450 horsepower all-new 3.5 V6 EcoBoost mated to an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford stole the Detroit Auto Show with this baby right here - the 2017 Ford GT.

What came in concept format at the North American International Auto Show will morph into production reality early next year. Before we move on, let’s talk numbers: 600-plus horsepower from a similarly all-new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost motor, seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle and a power-to-weight ratio expected to make jaws drop to ground level.

By the time the 2017 Ford GT supercar arrives early next year, the Blue Oval will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the legendary 1-2-3 finish at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. Ol’ pants GT40 claimed first, second and third place in 1966, an impressive feat bested only by the 1967-1968-1969 winning streak at the grueling and unyielding endurance race.

After the GT supercar of the Noughties, Ford had a hard time pondering whether it’s rightful to continue revamping the 50-year-old nameplate without repeating itself. Truth be told, the Detroit-based giant didn’t mess the 2017 GT any way you look at it. In this Forza Motorsport 6 trailer video, a gentleman can be heard telling: “I’m still pinching myself that we’re doing this.” We did the same thing at Detroit after the rumor was confirmed - the GT supercar is alive, kicking and going strong.

Whereas the clip below doesn’t offer much except for a lot of petrolhead eye candy, a few details got us on the edge of our seats. Firstly, the dashboard of the beast is a structural member of the carbon fiber tub, acting as the cross car beam. Secondly, the mysterious all-new 3.5-liter twin-turbo vee six EcoBoost is described as the “highest capacity” EcoBoost-branded motor ever produced by FoMoCo.

Lastly, the 2017 Ford GT’s “primary function is to go fast.” Don’t know about you, but we’re biting our fists here, expecting great things to happen. Too bad 2 cylinders have been sacrificed in the process...
