Hyundai engineers are working overtime to complete the development of the 2017 Santa Fe. We are here to show you a rather revealing set of spy photos of the third-generation Santa Fe's mid-cycle facelift.
Up front, the camouflage still conceals the new headlights, as well as the revised grille and apron, but you should expect mild changes. As for the rear end, the spied prototype lost its cover during the shoot, so we now have a clear image of things to come.

While the taillights will maintain their overall shape, the internal graphics are new, with this being the most cost-effective path. We have to remember Hyundai-Kia are seeking deep inspiration in the German car industry these days. With that in mind, the AMG-esque exhaust tips shouldn't come so much as a surprise.

Step inside

Just as importantly, we were able to see interior and the changes are even smaller than on the outside. The infotainment system has been revised with a new control layout that's aimed at improving ergonomics.

In fact, the button layout on the center area is one of the areas that's constantly being upgraded with Hyundai models and we can now see a few changes here and there.

Hybrid all-wheel drive

In terms of powertrain technology, the 2017 Santa Fe is expected to be fitted with a hybrid all-wheel drive system. This is expected to include petrol power for the front axle and an electric motor feeding the rear wheels.

Hyundai-Kia is now the world's fifth largest automaker by sales volume. Despite 2015 expected to see the company's slowest growth in 12 years, their engineering activities are stronger than ever.

For instance, on top of the e-4WD system we mentioned above, Hyundai's go-fast N division is reportedly aiming for the likes of BMW M and Mercedes-AMG. The expectations on this topic? The carmaker could take the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 they are currently developing to around 400 hp.

We'll remind you that Hyundai has a custom designation scheme for the model in the US - the standard model you see spied here is called Santa Fe Sport, while the long-wheelbase 7-seater uses the Santa Fe moniker.

Hyundai will introduce the mid-cycle revamp for the Santa Fe next year, with the crossover arriving as a 2017 model.
