2017 Scion FR-S / Toyota GT 86 Facelift Design Changes Highlighted in Drawing

Some of you might be wondering what the Toyobaru sporstcar feeds on, since the modest output and the not-so-modest price of the sportscar haven’t exactly helped sales skyrocket. A good answer to the question above certainly revolves around the strong community gathered by the Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ / Toyota GT 86.

And to get an idea of just how effervescent the fanbase of the Toyobaru is, we’ll tell you this - while petrolheads who worship go-fast gods from other carmakers like to char for hours, people over on the ft86club forum have turned to drawing.

As a result, we can now stop relying solely on our imagination and the latest set of spyshots in order to figure out how the revamped front end will look like. Instead, we have the drawing above, which gives us a pretty good idea on what the designers are planning for the world’s smallest production four-seater coupe.

Unfortunately, the mid-cycle revamp isn’t expected to bring massive changes in the area of the sportscar that would need them the most, namely under the bonnet.

Certain dyno tests have revealed that the Toyotbaru can go as low as 140 hp at the wheels, which is pretty far from what we’d expect, even knowing the official at-the-crank rating sits at 197 hp (200 PS).

The rumor mill mentions a five percent output increase, while the efficiency is expected to jump by seven percent. As for what will sit behind these figures, the engineers are expected to redesign the intake manifold, as well as reduce internal friction.

As expected, the handling will also be targeted by the facelift. To be more precise, the rear sub-frame will offer increased rigidity, while new Sachs-supplied dampers will be installed.

The changes sound limited, especially if we take into consideration the flaws we mentioned above take a great toll on the car’s aura. This might lead to frustration. When people are frustrated, they sometimes turn to drawing. And they don’t always draw nice things as the Toyobaru stuff above.
