2017 Porsche Boxster Spied Nearly Camo Free in Stuttgart

Even though the current Porsche Boxster and Cayman models are still practically new, they will receive a facelift next year, one that will change them to the core. If you’re a fan of how the two handle themselves right now, you might be better of hurrying to the dealership getting one right now.

If the most recent rumors come true, we’ll be seeing the entire range of engines that are currently varying from 2.7 to 3.4-liter alternatives replaced by a simpler choice: a 2-liter turbocharged mill. Unbelievable?

Not quite. You see, even Porsche has to abide by the EU laws on CO2 emissions and that’s not easy to do. That’s why the new models will be using turbocharged plants.

The 2-liter engine under the bonnet is expected to be manufactured in 240 HP and 370 HP guises. Yes, these figures are a bit of a surprise but they are also quite plausible.

The 240 HP figure is for the entry level models, of course, the Boxster losing 25 HP but probably gaining some serious torque in the process compared to the current layout.

On the other hand, the GTS model will be getting a 40 HP bump in HP if the 2-liter boxer turbocharged engine will indeed make 370 HP in total. That’s still 11 HP shy of the 45 AMG models from Mercedes, but it might not be enough to give them the upper hand. After all, this is Porsche we’re talking about and we’re sure other changes will also happen to the facelift models.

As you can see from the photos our spy photographers took of the barely camouflaged car near Stuttgart, the visual changes will be subtle, as always.

The new front bumper has new air intakes as well as a new combination of LED/DRL indicators. The door handles also seem slightly changed while the rear fenders are sporting air intakes, probably to cool off the turbocharged mill.

Expect the new Porsche Boxster to be unveiled in Detroit or Geneva, next year, with deliveries beginning towards the end of 2016.
