During the Fiat-Chrysler Investors Day, the Italo-American consortium offered a sneak peek of what the next few years will bring in terms of all-new models. In Jeep’s case, an all-new Grand Wagoneer is slated to take on the Range Rover, but the next generation of the Wrangler is also in the pipeline.
According to reports and valuable insider info, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will arrive in 2017. It’s been rumored a monocoque will be adopted in the detriment of the current body-on-frame, but that won’t be the case. A unibody will affect off-road prowess, which is why the 2018MY will retain its versatile body-on-frame construction.

With design cues or powertrain options still far from being revealed, we can highlight the next best detail about the next Wrangler. Apparently, Chrysler will inject money into the Toledo plant that makes the off-road model. The investment is said to upgrade manufacturing tools because the 2018 Wrangler’s body and chassis will be constructed out of lightweight aluminum alloys.

The most recent report on the much-awaited new Wrangler comes from AutomotiveNews and cites a filling with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. According to it, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will adopt the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission you can get nowadays on the Ram 1500, Jeep Grand Cherokee, as well as the 2015 model year Dodge Challenger and Charger.

Chrysler highlights in its filing that the gearbox “reduces fuel consumption by more than 9 percent over the five-speed" slush box it replaced. The ZF-developed eight-speed will definitely make a great team with the aluminum construction, which is why we expect a notable improvement at the pump over the 17 mpg city and 21 mpg highway the 2015 model year Jeep Wrangler is capable of.
