Skoda is now ready to enter FIA-backed events with their new Fabia R 5 model that was specifically designed for this purpose. Coming in hot to replace the older Super 2000 model, the new rally car has its work cut out.
Of course, don’t expect this thing to be your regular Fabia with a 1.2-liter engine with 90 HP though. This is that rally-spec version that uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine good for 300 HP. It might seem like nothing but the car weighs just a little over 1 ton.

On top of that it was specially prepared to be as fast as possible in rally events. That means it has a full roll-cage inside, a big wing at the back, modified suspension and a new aero kit for cutting through the air more efficiently.

You can also forget about front-wheel drive as this thing will send all of its power to the four corners of the car via a 5-speed sequential gearbox. The struts come from McPherson now.

“When working on the third-generation production Fabia, which enjoyed an extremely successful start, we incorporated some of the genes from our rally cars and developed the most emotive Fabia ever. Conversely, the production model now formed the basis for the new Fabia R 5,” said ŠKODA Board Member for Development Dr. Frank Welsch.

The car had gone through some serious testing before FIA gave it the green light. Pilots put it through its paces across over 10,000 km in a wide range of conditions in Austria, Germany, Italy, France and, of course, the Czech Republic.
