Now that Porsche has released its turbocharged 911 Carrera and Carrera S, we’re waiting to see what the mid-cycle refresh will do for the Turbo incarnations of the Neunelfer. And since we don’t like wasting time, we figured with might as well show you the level reached by the 911 Turbo S in its current form.
Since the standard car can withstand dozens of repeated launch control moves, aftermarket developers have figured out ways to tap into the supercar’s potential. One of the best examples of how far things have come is offered by the Turbo S in the video below.
This machine packs over 900 hp when using race gas despite its almost stock looks. Sure, this 911 does pack a few visual modifications, but everything can be labeled under tastefully restrained.
From the carbon rear wing and side skirt elements, to those slightly different air intakes up front, it takes a trained eye to tell this is not the standard car.
Add up the assets mentioned above and we end up with a Porsche that can be called a sleeper. After all, this is a 911 that has made the journey from 560 to around 900+ hp. And we're confident this Porsche can deliver quite a few surprises to drivers of Lamborghinis, Ferraris, McLarens and so on.
Returning to what the 991.2 move will bring for the 911 Turbo, we expect Porsche to do something that will allow their rear-engined machine to keep up with stuff like the 670 hp Ferrari 488 GTB. And with a Carrera S that can lap the Nurburgring in 7:30, we can expect a monster time from the Turbo.
There was an old rumor stating the 911 Turbo would receive electric assistance in order to deliver a hybrid output of around 700 hp, but Zuffenhausen isn’t expected to roll out a hybrid 911 until the next generation arrives in 2020.
